本文对沅水下游17个地点的旧石器的地理埋藏、自然环境、文化面貌、时代特征进行了分析,并与相邻的澧水文化类群和氵舞水文化类群进行了比较,认为这批旧石器的时代为旧石器时代早期偏晚至旧石器时代中期,属华南砾石石器传统,并指出沅水下游旧石器属于澧水文化类群,兼具澧水、氵舞水两大文化类群之间的某些过渡性特征。
